What a week! [Quick Recap of my first week in Vancouver BC]

I can’t believe that it has been a week since my arrival to Vancouver! So much has happened in such a little amount of time and I am really looking forward to what else is in store for me!

To give a recap of all that I have done, I am doing a short list and will expand with other blog posts- so make sure you subscribe to keep up with the new adventures!

I wandered the streets of Vancouver and tried to find important spots. I didn’t do such a good job at it and somehow ended up at Canada Place taking pictures. Also I met up with Eiliene and we walked on the Canada trail that leads to Stanley Park. We did not get into Stanley Park because it was such a long walk and we had to head back to our home bases for the night. At the hostel bar/restaurant they were playing bingo, so my roommates and I pretty much tried to win and one of them actually did get BINGO!

I went with the hostel activity group to Quarry Rock Hike and it was such a hard time for me. I got to talk to another member of the group and turns out that she has done a DTS in South Africa! We got to give each other our testimonies and on Sunday we attended church service and she got to meet a couple of my new friends from Vancouver! Isn’t it amazing how God brings his people together? Later that night I had dinner with my friend Eiliene and we headed to her church for small group.

I checked out of the hostel and wandered the streets of Vancouver trying to find Pacific Central bus station for my bus ride to Seattle. I managed to get to the bus station with plenty of time to spare but on the way to Seattle the bus broke down! We were stranded at the US border for almost 3 hours! It was actually frustrating at first because I was tired and hangry but now it’s a laughing matter. How many people can say that their bus broke down at the US border?

After arriving late on Friday night to Seattle, I had a somewhat early day to explore Seattle with an old friend and her husband. Seattle is a very walkable city and I still can’t believe that I have been there, albeit for a short period of time! One day in Seattle is not enough! Also, on the way back the sunset was so beautiful against the backdrop of the mountains and skylines!

I woke up early to attend church service with Eiliene then I went to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. The suspending bridge was swaying a whole lot more than I expected and I could just see my life flash before my eyes. Also, kids moving the bridge didn’t help my nerves any. I will definitely go back, but I would prefer to go when the park has just opened up to avoid the crowd. Also, wear comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking involved! I was so exhausted by the time I arrived at the hostel that I didn’t do anything else but rest!

I had a late morning because I really wanted to veg out all day but instead I ended up going to a local coffee shop for a bit of quiet time and then I went with one of my roommates to find hiking shoes. We ended up going to MEC and I bought a pair of shoes that, turns out, were on clearance! God is so good! I can say that I am really looking forward to backpacking in Nepal!

Throughout these past few days I have made new friends and am looking forward to seeing what happens on their adventures in life as well. I was a bit hesitant to have a hostel with 3 other strangers but I am thankful for God having placed me with the roomies friends that he did!
